Kudos to Atlanta Falcons organization
I watched most of the press conference held today by the Atlanta Falcons organization concerning the Michael Vick situation. I was extremely impressed with Falcons owner Arthur Black and GM Rich McKay. The men seemed truly disturbed by Vick’s alleged actions and do not plan on slapping him on the wrist. They are ready to suspend Vick for four games (the max allowed by the team) but are waiting to impose this punishment at the request of the commissioner. The commissioner would like to compete his investigation before sanctions are imposed, as his might be even more severe. Black and McKay weren’t satisfied with the suggestion of putting Vick on ‘paid leave.’ Kudos to the organization!
I’m thrilled to see that the team and league are taking Vick’s indictment for alleged dog fighting seriously. From the statements made today, I don’t foresee Vick playing for the Falcons again. I just hope that if and when he’s eventually released, no other team picks him up.
The only bright side to this whole ordeal is that it’s opened the public’s eyes to this horrendous activity. Most people have stated that they didn’t even know that dog fighting existed. Many of my readers know that I’ve been involved with the Humane Society of the United States the last three years as a volunteer. We’ve been raising money to combat dog fighting here in Chicago. I’ll be certain to post details of our annual fundraiser as it approaches, but you can save the date now; February 23, 2008.
